Slips, trips, and falls are a very common workplace incident.

In June 2020, MSHA stated that deaths from falls increased from 8% to 19% in mining fatalities in the past 2 years.

92 imminent danger orders were issued for persons working at heights with the most common violations were for persons climbing on equipment without sufficient fall protection.

Most of the larger underground mining trucks and loaders come with handrails installed at the factory. These should be maintained regularly as they are an effective means to protect workers when they are working on top of the vehicles.

OSHA requires that fall protection be provided at elevations of four feet in general industry workplaces, five feet in shipyards, six feet in the construction industry and eight feet in longshoring operations.
