About the Role:

We're in search of a mechanically inclined individual with a solid background in metalworking. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, possess a strong work ethic, and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reading and Interpreting: Interpret parts drawings and cut templates accurately to ensure precise cutting of metal components.
  • Measuring Proficiency: Utilize handheld measuring equipment proficiently to ensure precise dimensions and adherence to specifications.
  • Geometry and Cutting: Demonstrate a strong understanding of geometry to execute precise cutting techniques. Experience in geometric cutting methods is required.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate a variety of metalworking and machining equipment, including drill presses, band saws, hydraulic presses, and other relevant machinery.
  • Additional Skills: Experience with plasma cutters or MIG welding is advantageous and may be utilized in certain tasks.


Daily Tasks:

  • Metal Cutting and Forming: Execute cutting and forming tasks for various metal components, ensuring compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Material Handling: Load metal parts onto carts for transfer to the assembly shop, maintaining organization and efficiency in the production process.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on equipment and maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure safety and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience in metalworking and machine operation is essential for this role.
  • Reliability: Demonstrate reliability and maintain a strong attendance record, showing commitment to meeting daily deadlines and production goals.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to work efficiently under pressure, solving problems as they arise to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with colleagues, prioritizing team goals and contributing to a positive work environment.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively in English and demonstrate a customer-focused attitude towards internal and external stakeholders.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be capable of lifting and moving objects weighing up to 25 pounds regularly, 50-60 pounds frequently, and participate in occasional team lifts exceeding 100 pounds.


Training:


On-the-Job Training: Receive comprehensive on-the-job training covering drawing interpretation, equipment operation, and relevant processes to ensure proficiency in the role.


Forklift Training: Opportunity for forklift training at regular intervals to enhance skills and contribute to workplace safety.


Physical Requirements:


Strength and Stamina:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects, often weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally more.
  • Sustain long periods of standing, walking, or repetitive motions such as bending, twisting, and lifting.

Hand-Eye Coordination & Dexterity:

  • Precise control of fingers and hands to manipulate or adjust metal objects.
  • Ability to use hand tools, such as hammers, pliers, and screwdrivers, efficiently.
  • Capability to operate machinery or equipment that require steady and coordinated movements.

Visual Acuity:

  • Clear vision to read small labels, measurements, blueprints, or computer screens.
  • Ability to recognize fine details, judge depth, and perceive subtle or nuanced differences in shape or brightness.
  • Possessing peripheral vision to be aware of surroundings, especially when working around moving machinery or equipment.

Flexibility & Balance:

  • Capability to bend, twist, stoop, and reach without constraint.
  • Maintain balance while working on potentially slippery or uneven surfaces, or when handling heavy materials or tools.

Endurance:

  • Resilience to work in a fast-paced environment, often under strict deadlines.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks over extended periods without significant fatigue.

Environmental Tolerance:

  • Capability to work in environments that might be dusty or have fluctuating temperatures.
  • Tolerance for exposure to loud noises from machinery or tools, with the understanding that protective gear must always be worn.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment for extended periods, such as safety glasses, ear protection, gloves, masks, or steel-toed boots.

Respiratory & Circulatory Health:

  • Possess adequate lung capacity and respiratory health to work in environments where fumes or dust might be present, especially when wearing masks or respirators.
  • Healthy circulatory system to prevent potential complications when standing for prolonged periods or operating vibrating machinery.

Cognitive Abilities:

  • Strong spatial abilities to judge distances or understand how objects fit together.
  • Alertness and focus, especially important when operating machinery or handling sharp objects.

Gross Motor Skills:

  • Proficiency in using larger muscle groups to walk, stand, pull, push, or carry.

Tolerance for Repetition:

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks without physical discomfort.
  • There will be a variety of other regular duty tasks not listed above.

Job Details


  • This is a full-time permanent position. Eight (8) hour, day shift from Monday to Friday.
  • Headingley, MB R4H 0A9 : reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required).
  • $24.00 per hour.
