Field service Engineer (Fort McMurray, AB)

About the Role:

The Field Engineer supports the continued growth of the North West Region, including the increased technical service demands and expansion of warehouse operations. This role bridges field operations, customer support, and engineering by combining hands on mechanical work, structured technical reporting, and direct customer engagement.


The position is designed to support immediate regional needs while offering a clear development path into future technical, operational, or leadership roles as the region scales. The successful candidate will bring strong technical capability, mechanical aptitude, confidence working directly with customers, and the ability to translate field requirements into actionable engineering input.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Technical Field Support and Engineering Liaison:

  • Conduct 3D scanning and fitment verification on customer equipment.
  • Prepare detailed fitment reports including accurate measurements, photos, and observations.
  • Support technical drawing reviews and provide practical design feedback.
  • Perform thermal audits and assist with product validation activities.
  • Collect and document structured field data to support product development and engineering analysis.
  • Act as a communication link between field requirements and the engineering team to ensure customer needs are accurately reflected in design decisions.
  • Provide technical feedback on new and emerging product lines.

On Site Stocking and RFID Support:

  • Support the expanding on site stocking program during its growth phase.
  • Perform scheduled stock checks and inventory verification.
  • Monitor RFID system functionality and identify discrepancies or gaps.
  • Provide clear feedback to operations and supply chain teams.
  • Assist with warehouse setup and stocking process improvements as the region expands.
  • Track product usage and relay data to internal teams.

Mechanical and Hands On Support

  • Confirm product fitment and installation in the field.
  • Perform SCR rebuilds and component assemblies as required.
  • Validate installation procedures and provide feedback for process improvements.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and root cause analysis when technical issues arise.

Customer Support and Opportunity Development

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers across the North West Region.
  • Act as a technical point of contact when issues or questions arise.
  • Proactively engage customers to resolve concerns and protect long term relationships.
  • Identify growth opportunities and communicate them to sales and management teams.
  • Represent the company professionally during site visits and technical discussions.

Qualifications


Required Background and Qualifications

  • Engineering background in mechanical, manufacturing, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Strong technical report writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and participate in design reviews.
  • Demonstrated hands on mechanical aptitude and field experience.
  • Strong communication skills with confidence in customer facing environments.
  • Ability to work independently in a growing and evolving regional operation.

As the North West Region continues to expand through new warehouse operations, a broader product portfolio, increased technical service demand, and field sales growth, this role may evolve into positions such as Regional Technical Lead, Operations and Warehouse Manager, Product Development Field Engineer, or Customer Technical Manager.

Competencies

Mobile Equipment Expertise

  • Work on both surface and underground mobile equipment, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Safely climb and work on mining equipment, including ascending/descending using vertical ladders or walkways.

Tool Proficiency

  • Competently use hand tools for various tasks.
  • Competent use of the following measuring devices: Vernier calipers, OD calipers, ID calipers, circumference tape, measuring tape (able to read increments to 1/32), depth gauge, level, square, and angle finder

Problem Solving and Decision Making

  • Identify and resolve issues independently or in remote areas, prioritizing the company and customer's best interests.

Auditing and Inspection

  • Conduct audits on mining equipment.
  • Perform comprehensive Fire Mitigation Inspection audits.

Physical Requirements and working conditions

  • Demonstrate flexibility and physical agility for tasks that involve crouching, bending, leaning, climbing, and accessing confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits employee to communicate effectively.
  • Sufficient vision which permits employee to conduct measuring and on-site diagnostics.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity which permits the employee to perform technical duties.
  • Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodations to perform office duties, technical duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations.
  • Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection (ie/ full body harness, SCBA, SABA, respirators, chemical suits, steam suits, bunker gear, etc.).
  • Extreme working conditions ie/ very hot or frigid temperatures.
  • Working in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels.
  • Frequent Travel to Work Sites, work truck provided.
  • Overnight stays in hotels or company houses till project completion.
