About the Role:
The Purchaser at Mammoth Equipment & Exhaust Inc. is responsible for the sourcing, procurement, and supplier management of materials, components, and services required for manufacturing operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the production team has the right materials, at the right time, at the right cost while maintaining quality standards and operational continuity.
Working in a manufacturing environment, the Purchaser manages procurement activities for raw materials, fabricated components, consumables, tooling, and operational services used in the production of industrial exhaust systems, thermal protection products, and fabricated metal assemblies for heavy-duty equipment.
The role requires strong commercial judgment, supplier negotiation capability, and the ability to coordinate closely with production, engineering, warehouse, and logistics teams to maintain efficient material flow and minimize disruptions to manufacturing schedules.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Procurement & Sourcing:
- Source and procure raw materials, fabricated components, and services required for manufacturing operations.
- Identify and evaluate suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and delivery performance.
- Request quotations, analyze pricing structures, and negotiate purchase terms with vendors.
- Develop and maintain competitive supplier options to reduce risk and maintain cost efficiency.
- Participate in supplier selection and approval processes in collaboration with operations and engineering teams.
- Support cost reduction initiatives through supplier negotiations, alternate sourcing, and volume purchasing strategies.
Manufacturing Materials Management:
- Monitor inventory levels and production schedules to determine purchasing requirements.
- Ensure uninterrupted supply of materials required for manufacturing operations.
- Work closely with production planning to anticipate material demand and prevent shortages.
- Coordinate with warehouse teams regarding incoming materials and inventory control.
- Assist in establishing reorder points and minimum stock levels for critical materials.
- Support the introduction of new product lines by sourcing new components and suppliers.
Purchase Order Management:
- Prepare, issue, and manage purchase orders for materials, equipment, and services.
- Ensure purchase orders contain accurate pricing, specifications, delivery terms, and quantities.
- Track purchase orders and follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.
- Resolve discrepancies related to pricing, quantities, quality, or delivery delays.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, documentation, and supplier agreements.
Supplier Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain professional relationships with suppliers and vendors.
- Monitor supplier performance related to quality, pricing, and delivery reliability.
- Address supplier issues related to delays, shortages, or non-conforming materials.
- Participate in supplier performance evaluations and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support long-term supplier partnerships that contribute to operational stability and cost efficiency.
Cross-Department Coordination:
- Collaborate closely with production, engineering, warehouse, and logistics teams to align procurement activities with operational needs.
- Communicate material delivery schedules and procurement timelines to relevant departments.
- Work with engineering teams on sourcing components for new designs or product modifications.
- Assist the operations team with material planning and cost forecasting.
- Provide purchasing activity reports to the Supply Chain or Operations Manager.
Compliance & Process Control:
- Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies and internal approval processes.
- Maintain documentation required for audits, supplier records, and procurement tracking.
- Follow applicable regulatory and industry requirements related to procurement and supply chain practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within procurement and supply chain processes.
Qualifications
Education Requirements
Must Have:
- College diploma or equivalent in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field
OR
- Equivalent combination of education and practical purchasing experience.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Operations, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as SCMP (Supply Chain Management Professional), CPSM, or equivalent.
Experience Requirements
Must Have:
- Minimum 2–3 years of purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience sourcing materials used in industrial manufacturing (e.g., metals, fabricated components, mechanical parts, or industrial consumables).
- Experience managing supplier relationships and negotiating pricing and delivery terms.
- Experience working with production schedules and manufacturing inventory requirements.
- Experience issuing and managing purchase orders.
Preferred:
- Experience purchasing materials for metal fabrication, heavy equipment, or industrial manufacturing.
- Experience supporting new product introduction or engineering projects.
- Experience working with ERP or MRP systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with international suppliers or cross-border procurement.
Technical Skills
Must Have:
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Ability to track procurement data and maintain accurate purchasing records.
- Understanding of inventory control and basic supply chain processes.
Preferred:
- Experience with ERP systems used in manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of material planning concepts such as lead times, reorder points, and safety stock.
- Familiarity with industrial materials such as steel components, fabricated parts, or mechanical assemblies.
